Wednesday is Fresh Meat Day

Wednesday of course means a fresh delivery to the ZombieDollar$ gates and this week Mimic has been good enough to send over even more zombies on top of his previous submission. This unholy trinity also happens to include my favourite zombie of all time 'Tarman' from my my favourite zombie flick of all time 'Return of the Living Dead'. Thanks Mimic, I'll make sure they get a nice big plot to claw their way out of.

Close friend of Zombiedollar$ and all round superstar of the living dead Aaron Blecha has just scrawled a whole mortuaries worth of zombie illustrations for new children's book 'Zombiekin's' and as always with his work it looks great. So if you have any children who are playing it a bit too safe with their reading material get them some good ol' zombie matter before sparkling vampires and schoolboy wizards steal their souls!

The original JEdward! Despite being a fan of Jonathan's since his Jim Morrison Pet Shop Strip many moons ago, and despite Jonathan's support of Zombiedollar$ thanks to his plugging it on his equally fine but altogether sexier Draw Serge! blog somehow he has been tragically unrepresented here at $Z HQ. Well all that ends today as Jonathan has not only sent over a fantastic zombie (something about a suited and booted zombie really appeals to me) but he also provided me with a great quote which will soon appear on the website's intro page and may well be the new ZombieDollar$ mantra. Cheers Jonathan!

Zombiedollars.com has now risen once more. All the current artists who have been good enough to grab a shovel are now on there. Go bask in their undead glory!

In the meantime I shall keep the blog running for updates or for exciting news from the world of Zombie Artwork.

I'm having a real problem, the above zombies were dispatched to Zombiedollars HQ but somehow I lost their papers! Does anyone recognise the artists? At the moment they have been given residency within the gates of the graveyard but I'd really love to give full credit to the original artists.

Can anyone help?

Ian is an incredibly talented UK illustrator and animator. He currently seems to be working through the complete works of Sherlock Holmes, creating densley layered and faithful graphic novels every couple of days. He currently also has an adaptation of 'At the Mountains of Madness' in the pipeline, and I for one can't wait to see what he produces.

I love me some zombie GI! I think it goes back to my formative years when House came along (the comedy horror, not the doctor show) with it's badass Big Ben character. Combined with the awesomeness of 'Camouflage' riding the charts and GI's from beyond the grave where all the rage it seemed. When Gomer Pile failed to rise from beyond and save the day at the end of Full Metal Jacket the following year, a nation wept at a missed opportunity.

John works in the video games industry and creates super sexy art that has a fantastic sixties counter culture underground comics flavour to it. Unfortunately he doesn't get to update his blog too often, but there's still a beautiful back catalogue of his work which you can trawl through! Check it out...

Travis Pitts

Travis Pitts is a legend among geeks and anyone familiar with his work knows why. is tee designs combine full on geek nostalgia with a fantastic eye for the craft of illustration. He's recently been putting out alot of ubercool minimalist movie posters which move away from his traditional illustrative approach yet still rock like Buckaroo Banzai and the Hong Kong Cavaliers. As you can see, this particular zombie is five years old now so is beginning to smell quite ripe, so I may have to ask the good Mr Pitts if he has something fresher on the slab.

MunkOne is an LA based artist who has more cool and outstanding zombie artwork than seems humanly possible. He's worked for a vast wealth of clients and is as close to a rocknrolla as an illustrator can possibly get. This piece, entitled Sarah, is just one of the many he has been kind enough to share with me and I put it here as it sit's very nicely alongside Mr Smarts own cute zombie girly.

Mr Smart is an absolute legend in my book, and the adorable pin up boy of a whole generation of Angst ridden Emo kids everywhere no doubt. My first exposure to Jamies work came when I worked for a Greeting Cards company and when leafing through the Artist Files I came across a whole slew of wonderful cartoons which shone like a beacon amongst the many Golfing Bears on display. Anyone familiar with Blue Peter or perhaps just illustration in general will no doubt be aware of Jon and his work. The man is a true legend, and at the age of just 14 has already accomplished more than most illustrators have managed over a much greater length of time. Perhaps the secret to Jon's success is the abundance of fun and enthusiasm he throws into every job he does, perhaps it's his strict diet of wagon wheels. Who knows! But what I do know is that he's a great guy and has helped me out on many an occasion.

I have lost all the original correspondance with Gary, which kind of sucks as all I remember is he was a cool guy and had great taste in movies so here we go with the official bio from his fantastic website -

Andrew Glazebrook

This is just one of several flesh eaters sent over by master of 3D and Teesside talen Andrew 'Humanoid' Glazebrook. Andrew always has some nice juicy work over at his art blog, but for a real treat I love his fun blog Be Still My Blog of War which is always packed with fun little articles to appease my inner geek.

He was also good enough to point me in the direction of Zombie Movie which I loved. No doubt I was behind the times in seeing this, but if by some chance you have never seen it check it out.

Andrew also wins extra zombiedollars for having the good taste of having Return of the Living Dead as his fave zombie flick. Good man!

Aaron Blecha

"What? Another Aaron ? Is that what it takes to make it in the world of zombie art today? Call yourself Aaron and your set?! No! No says I, I shall make a stand against this thing, right here right now!" Hey, no, cool your jets Daddy-o, stem that flow! I'm simply making my way through the list of current contributors, all alphabetty-spaghetti like. Your day will come Zeddy 'Zed' Zedd, your day will come.
Aaron is just too cool for words. He sent me this image (or versions of) a grand total of three times in all, just to make sure he was happy with what he was putting out there for the world. Far short of Kubrick in his vision, but thankfully leaps and bounds ahead of Ed 'CUT! PERFECT! PRINT IT!' Wood. Heck, i might even put all three versions up, just so we can have more Blecha goodness in the world.

Originally hailing from San Francisco (home of the Dirty Harry and the greatest of the Body Snatcher movies) but moved over here to the UK to be with his one true love. Awwwww...

He even did some extra zombies for EDGE magazine last year, which I shall put up here at a later stage, when all the current art has dried up. Until then you can always visit his site as well as his blog of goodness, which has some of his animation work up there. Now git!

Aaron Archer

Aaron was one of the first submissions to the Zombiedollars graveyard that shambled into my inbox completely unprovoked, as is always the case with these undead SoB's. One day your just visiting your mothers grave, freaking out your little sister with your oh so spoooky monster voice and then BAM! You're lunch!
I loved the power and energy he had here, channelling a little 21st century feral zombieness ala Dawn 2004 and 28 Days Later. Whats that you say? 28 Days Later isn't a zombie flick? Tell that to Aaron, it's his Zombie flick of choice you ingrates and if he says it's a zombie flick, it's a zombie flick! This man designs Transformers for a living, he knows his stuff so just STEP OFF!
I also love the little story he's telling here - the ring, the bite mark. Oh the humanity! That my friends, is good illustration.

Dwayne Bell

To kick things off, I'm starting where the whole thing started, as that's always the best place to start, and that's with this piece by the fantastically talented Mr Dwayne Bell. This was the first piece of zombie art I received, and I loved it so much I thought 'Hey! Maybe other artists have zombie pics they want to share!' And they did. At my last count zombie art outnumbered zombie films by about fifty to one as far as quality is concerned, but still they keep coming. Why do they come? Because they're us. And we're them. Only now they're them too! And so are we!!
Mr Bell seems to have swapped his pencils for a bike these days and can oft be seen haring around the Scottish Borders, like Nicolas Cage in Ghost Rider, but without the comedy teeth and cgi hair of the good Mr Cage!
